Why Coaching?
While therapy and mentoring share many of the skills and techniques with coaching, coaching looks at the current situation, then where the client would like to be, and together the coach and client work to minimise the gap between current and future.
When I work with clients, we usually start with a review of the current situation. We will look at goal setting exercises and what outcomes the client is looking to achieve. Working together to map out objectives, hurdles and steps forward. Often this involves looking at client's values and beliefs along the way. At the beginning we clearly set an objective for the end of the sessions, although this sometimes changes during the work we do together.
I sometimes use exercises and tools if I think it will be of service to the client, or accelerating outcomes.
I always listen to the client, and am led by them.
